The Objective

The objective was to design the annual review for the Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD), showcasing the academic achievements and creative excellence of alumni and students. The challenge was to create a high-polish, innovative publication that felt as "forward-thinking" as the work it contained, while navigating strict budgetary and resource constraints.

The Design Process & Delivery

I led the visual identity and structural design of the report, working as a strategic partner to the editorial team to maximize the impact of the faculty’s accomplishments.

  • Agile Resource Management: Faced with limited production resources, I focused on high-impact design choices, such as bold colours, typography and unique pattern motifs that delivered a innovative feel without the need for expensive print finishes.

  • Modular Identity System: I developed a modular visual system for the publication based on the "transformative" theme. This allowed the editorial team to house a wide variety of project types, from film and journalism to fashion and tech, within a cohesive and structured narrative.

  • Collaborative Prototyping: I worked closely with editors to iterate on the content hierarchy, ensuring that the student achievement stories remained the focal point while maintaining the university’s institutional authority.

The Outcome

The final publication was a resounding success, effectively translating academic and student achievement into a tangible, immersive brand experience. By delivering a sophisticated product within tight constraints, the report served as a vital tool for recruitment and donor relations, reinforcing TMU's position as a leader in the creative industries.
